Why vote for Eric Leach?

I am an independent candidate Councillor for Walpole Ward. I am not a member of any political party.

For the last three years I have been Vice-Chair of West Ealing Neighbours and have worked on many local campaigns representing residents' interests. These campaigns include saving our antique cast-iron lamp-posts, improving pedestrian safety at the Lido Junction, lobbying for increases in school capacities in an appropriate way, and helping to stop the impractical tram project and the disastrous Arcadia development in the centre of Ealing. In previous years I have twice served as a school governor and was chair of a housing society. I have lived in Ealing since 1967 and in West Ealing for over 30 years.

I think party politics have damaged Ealing over many years. Ealing Labour Party’s obsession with the tram is now being matched by the Ealing Conservatives' preoccupation with wanting to ‘cosy up’ to property developers and build huge residential tower blocks, with no social or community support.

2010 and the years to follow are likely to be a period of deep cuts in public expenditure as the country tries to reduce its massive monthly borrowings and the crippling national debt. What I feel is needed is someone with an independent outlook who can represent your interests inside the Council without becoming tangled up in the interests of a controlling group of Councillors - whichever political party is in power.
