85% of LDF Public Consultation Responses Say ‘NO’ to 10,000 homes Being Built in the Uxbridge Road Corridor by 2026

As part of National Government’s planning process, Ealing Council (EC) has to draw up so-called Local Development Framework (LDF) documents which describe how Ealing’s land should be used over the next 17 years. In September 2009 EC carried out a Public Consultation on its Draft LDF Core Strategy. The most contentious matter for me in the 326 pages of documents(!) was the commitment to build 10,000 homes within 800 metres of Acton, Ealing Broadway, West Ealing and Southall Stations by 2026. No information was provided as to how and where the local social and community services which would be needed to support these 20,000 new residents.

Four public meeting were convened (poorly) by EC and only 160 residents in total turned up at them. In all just 60 individuals and organisations provided comments in writing on the strategy. I has analysed the summaries of these 60 responses given to me by EC, and 85% don’t want this massive home building programme in these already densely populated areas. Will this bring about a change in policy by the Council?
